Wilson Park Creek Reconstruction Plans

The Wilson Park Creek, which runs north of Layton Avenue between S. Howell and S. 13th Streets, is a concrete lined channel that is prone to flooding. Due to extreme weather events of the past few years, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has re-drawn the floodplain map for this and other river corridors. The new map contains all or portions of over 50 properties bordering Wilson Park Creek. To proactively address any flooding issues that may arise, the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District plans to reconstruct the Creek and return it to a natural river habitat that will both look better and reduce flooding risk. To present and collect feedback on their plan, MMSD will be hosting a public open house on Wednesday January 15 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Town of Lake Water Tower, 4001 S. 6th Street.
