Southwest Airlines Looks to Grow Market Share in Milwaukee

It is no secret that the airline industry has been shaken up over the last few years.  Rising fuel prices and changing economics of flight have forced multiple airline mergers and a number of bankruptcies within the industry.  These trends have left many cities and their airports uncertain of how or where they will be connected to in the future.  One of the bright spots in the airline industry has been Southwest Airlines, and according to a Business Journal article about the airline and CEO Gary Kelly, they are looking to increase their presence in the Milwaukee market in the coming years.

When Southwest first entered General Mitchell International Airport, it had only 12 direct flights out of Milwaukee.  In the next few years, Southwest will increase their presence to serve 50 cities with direct flights.  This will boost their market share to over 50%, which will ultimately be a good thing for Mitchell Airport in the wake of Midwest and then Frontier Airlines' de-hubbing in the Milwaukee area.  You can read the Business Journal's interview with Gary Kelly at the link below:
