Photoset – General Mitchell’s New Baggage Claim

On Wednesday, September 3rd, General Mitchell International Airport’s baggage claim area opened to passengers for the first time in months. This marks the completion of the first of three construction phases that broke ground in September 2013. Travelers arriving in Milwaukee typically comment on the ease of passing through Mitchell Airport, especially compared with Chicago’s O’Hare and Midway Airports. Soon they will have an even more appealing travel experience as the aesthetic appeal of the ground transportation pickup area and baggage claim are further upgraded. Design elements of the phase completed today include modern light fixtures, brushed metal columns, and polished marble. The finished work may remind visitors of other Milwaukee landmarks, like the US Bank Building, 6th Street viaduct, or even the Calatrava with an emphasis on white steel architecture.
